School Security Update
School Board Votes to Request Funds for Safety and Security Upgrades

The School Board voted November 7 to request a supplemental appropriation of approximately $1.3 million from the Frederick County Board of Supervisors for the Phase II Safety and Security Construction Upgrades to seven schools as well as the FCPS Administration Building.

The overall mean score of Frederick County Public Schools’ 2018 graduates who took the SAT exceeded the national mean score of public high school seniors. Frederick County’s mean score of 1099 exceeded the all-schools national mean score by 50 points.

FCPS Receives School Equipment Security Grant

All Frederick County Public Schools Accredited for 2018-19

The Virginia Department of Education has accredited all Frederick County Public Schools for 2018-19. This year’s accreditation ratings are based on a revised school accountability system that provides a more comprehensive view of school quality while encouraging continuous improvement for all schools and placing an increased emphasis on closing achievement gaps among students.

Enrollment Growth

Enrollment in Frederick County Public Schools is continuing to climb. Enrollment as of September 14 was 13,645. That compares to 13,581 on August 31 and 13,247 on the first day of school (August 15). As of September 14, enrollment has increased by 398 students since first day of school.

FCPS Supports American Heart Association

Frederick County Public Schools raised $96,533 to support the American Heart Association through a variety of programs such as Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart in 2017-18. That ranked FCPS seventh amongst all school divisions in Virginia in the amount of funds raised for the American Heart Association.

College Acceptance Rates in Frederick County Exceed State Average

According to the Virginia Public Access Project, 73.2 percent of Frederick County’s high school graduates who applied to a four-year public college or university in Virginia from 2014-2016 were accepted. That exceeds the average statewide acceptance rate of 69.8 percent and is one of the highest acceptance rates in the region.
